badolputtytat,
It's interesting that you mentioned confronting them - I can't find them in my neighborhood. I'm going to make this the subject of my next topic.

taliban wrests control of zambul from us
monday, 11 august , 2003, 10:51
washington: the taliban has wrested control of most of zabul province in southeastern afghanistan-- for the first time recapturing a province since being ousted from power by the us military in november 2001-- geopolitical analytical firm stratfor reported.
Hamas,
Palestinians are blowing up busses and restaurants under the pretense of fighting Israel in the name of Allah - so how is that any better than dropping bombs on the heavily armed Taliban?
By looking at your photograph, I can tell that you wouldn't have lasted very long in Afghanistan unless you grew your beard and went to the nearest mosque three times a day. Do you think it's fair that someone point a gun at your head because you don't believe in Allah? Do you think it's fair that women in Afghanistan are treated with less dignity than livestock?
it has been a while since i posted for advice but i haven't had a cig now in 6 weeks.
cheers for everyones helpful advice.
the best advice has been just to recognise that i had a problen -that i was dependant rather than just not thinking about it.
Be Wise:
The best thing to do is to find healthy snack foods and to keep them handy whenever you get the urge to smoke. The emphasis is on healthy foods. Non smokers are known to put on lots of weight after quitting. Smoking keeps your metabolism up, which makes you feel less hungry. If you're able to work out I recommend you do so - this will keep your metabolism up and will improve your mood.
Good Luck.
i was watching one of the sports chanels the other day and saw an hour long story on mr. tyson.
there were several segments showing different prefight interviews.
his behavior at these gatherings was incorrigable.
Thunder,
Unfortunately, the worlds of sports and entertainment are not morally guided. Unfortunately, the media doesn't make the distinction between financial success with moral success. As long as a celebrity is making hits and contributing to a charity - all else can be forgiven, even biting the ear off a competitor.
I'm glad Tyson went broke, guys like him don't deserve to keep all that money.

I thought the same thing when I saw that video clip. It's easy for guys like to lie when they don't have children of their own.

After examing the contents at http://www.silentlambs.org/ and http://www.dirtclod.com/ I took it upon myself to see examine the viewpoint of the WTS on this matter through it's website at http://www.watchtower.org. The results were shocking to say the least.
The WTS is probably not aware of it, but it's articles seem to subliminally reveal it's tragic view of child abuse. As if their articles had a conscious of their own, they clearly confess to the very crimes the WTS has accused other religions of committing.
It's saddening however, because the WTS uses articles like the ones shown below to turn the public's attention to other religous organizations, as if it stood out among the rest as a protector of children. To someone who is unaware of the crisis, it may seem as if the WTS is the only place where God's protection can be found. But to those who have been victimized by a JW and the policies of the WTS, these articles are like salt on an open wound.
The WTS has proven to be as deceitful as Satan himself because it has truly disguised itself as an 'angel of light' (2 Corinthians 11:14, 15). Though it accuses the Catholic Church of the same thing, the WTS has worn the disguise better because it has been so outspoken on the very subject it is guilty of - child abuse secrecy.
After reading the horrifying tragedies described in silentlambs.org and dirtclod.com, and comparing these cases to the articles quoted below, one could easily conclude that perhaps, Satan has finally designed the perfect lure for innocent, God-loving families: an organization that can truly shatter all faith in God and religion.
After examining www.silentlambs.org and www.dirtclod.com consider the following article links and their quotes shown in italics. My comments are in red.
http://www.watchtower.org/library/g/1993/10/8a/article_01.htm
" Assaults on children are often cloaked in secrecy, so much so that they have been called perhaps the most unreported of crimes. Even so, such crimes have evidently spiraled upward in recent decades."...
How ironic that the WTS is hiding over 20,000 child abuses cases within their organization.
..."In various countries disturbing reports have surfaced about religious cults that abuse children with sadistic sexual practices and torture. Often, those who report that they were victims of such crimes are treated with incredulity, not compassion"
Silentlambs serves as a witness to the compassion shown by the WTS.
http://www.watchtower.org/library/g/1993/10/8a/article_02.htm
"After using children to satisfy perverted lusts, after robbing them of their security and their sense of innocence, child molesters still want something else from their victims;SILENCE. To secure that silence, they use shame, secrecy, even outright terror. Children are thus robbed of their best weapon against abuse;the will to tell, to speak up and ask an adult for protection."
"Tragically, adult society often unwittingly collaborates with child abusers. How so? By refusing to be aware of this danger, by fostering a hush-hush attitude about it, by believing oft-repeated myths. Ignorance, misinformation, and silence give safe haven to abusers, not their victims."
"For example, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops concluded recently that it was a "general conspiracy of silence" that allowed gross child abuse to persist among the Catholic clergy for decades. Time magazine, in reporting on the widespread plague of incest, also cited a "conspiracy of silence" as a factor that "only helps perpetuate the tragedy" in families."
Here we can see the 'angel of light' at work, using misdirection to hide it's own sins.
"However, Time noted that this conspiracy is crumbling at last. Why? In a word, education. It is as Asiaweek magazine put it: "All experts agree that the best defence against child abuse is public awareness." To defend their children, parents must understand the realities of the threat. Don't be left in the dark by misconceptions that protect child abusers and not children."
If the Society doesn't want to leave it's readers in the dark, why doesn't it mention the work of William Bowen?
http://www.watchtower.org/library/g/1993/10/8a/article_03.htm
"Similarly the Christian congregation today enforces strong laws against all forms of sexual abuse. Anyone who sexually abuses a child risks being disfellowshipped, put out of the congregation."...
..."However, The Globe and Mail of Toronto notes: "In 80 per cent of cases, one or more sectors of the community (including friends or colleagues of the offender, families of victims, other children, some victims) denied or minimized the abuse." Not surprisingly, "the report suggests that denial and disbelief allow abuse to continue."...
..."Remember, though, that abusers work in secrecy, they take advantage of trust, and they use adult tactics on innocent children. Inevitably, then, some of them do seem to get away with their disgusting crimes."
http://www.watchtower.org/library/g/1993/10/8a/diagram_02.htm
Some legal experts advise reporting the abuse to the authorities as soon as possible. In some lands the legal system may require this. But in other places the legal system may offer little hope of successful prosecution.
Some legals experts? Do you know of any legal expert that would not recommend contacting the authorities in the event of child abuse? Though some lands may or may not require it, does that mean that the WTS should not report it? Isn't it still a crime in all countries? Considering the article is about protecting children, where in this article do you see the phrase CALL THE POLICE?
http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/1997/1/1/article_01.htm
"What if a baptized adult Christian sexually molests a child? Is the sinner so wicked that Jehovah will never forgive him? Not necessarily so. Jesus said that 'blasphemy against the holy spirit' was unforgivable. And Paul said that there is no sacrifice for sins left for one who practices sin willfully despite knowing the truth. (Luke 12:10; Hebrews 10:26, 27) But nowhere does the Bible say that an adult Christian who sexually abuses a child - whether incestuously or otherwise - cannot be forgiven. Indeed, his sins can be washed clean if he repents sincerely from the heart and turns his conduct around. However, he may still have to struggle with the wrong fleshly impulses he cultivated. (Ephesians 1:7) And there may be consequences that he cannot avoid."
"Depending on the law of the land where he lives, the molester may well have to serve a prison term or face other sanctions from the State. The congregation will not protect him from this. Moreover, the man has revealed a serious weakness that henceforth will have to be taken into account. If he seems to be repentant, he will be encouraged to make spiritual progress, share in the field service, even have parts in the Theocratic Ministry School and nonteaching parts in the Service Meeting."
So this means that once a pervert repents, he is still able to go out and lure more of the public into the KH, where he can be further tempted. This doesn't sound like a strong policy to child abuse at all, it's disgusting and insulting. If a school teacher were convicted of rape and released after serving time, would you allow him to work at daycare center?
Thanks to all of you for reading this lengthy but serious post.
the wts must think that only worldlies are going to read this.
i was reading this article which they posted on their website titled religion- how should it be financed?

The WTS must think that only worldlies are going to read this. I was reading this article which they posted on their website titled Religion- How Should It Be Financed?
http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/2002/12/1/article_02.htm
It appears that the WTS is trying to say that they finance their entire operation through 'voluntary donations'. They even show a photo as seen here of someone dropping cash into a box. Chances are, this guy dropped more in the donation box than he did for his kid's college fund but anyway, the following is what came to mind as I read this:
Why don't they show the box next to the 'literature counter' at the KH?
Why don't they show a JW dropping $20 in the box in exchange for a stack of Awake mags?
Why didn't this article talk about how the literature is distributed for a fee which they call a 'voluntary donation' in third world countries?
Why doesn't it mention that the WTS is able to fund it's operations through non-profit tax loopholes and by paying it's workers less than the U.S. minimum wage without even a retirement plan?
Considering the donations made for their publications and 'worldwide work', tithing is actually a bargain.
Consider this:
- If I earn $20,000 a year and I tithe 10% I'm giving God $2,000 a year and I'm done.
- However, if I'm an active J-Dub who donates accordingly for 50 Watchtowers, 25 Awakes, 15 books and 10 Bibles a month - at an average of $2.50 per publication (this is how much they would expect to get from a householder) this would total $250.00 a month, or $3000.00 yearly.
- This amount will increase if I purchase the new literature which is introduced at every annual convention and even more when I donate for the 'Worldwide Work'. Don't forget, there are two types of donation boxes at the KH. One for the congregation and the other for the worldwide work. I'm easily spending more than $3200.00 at this point.
In conclusion, you're better off tithing then to be exploited at the expense of your children's education.
this question may not make too much sense.
if a man creates a computer, using the best parts and software design with the intent of analyzing data accurately and reliably, would he also design it with the ability or freedom to 'crash' or spread viruses to other computers if it chose to?
if a man trains a dog with the intent of being a family pet, would he also give it the knowledge to kill humans or other animals?
There is nothing accidental or random about human emotion. All actions taken by humans are based on emotions. Emotions originate in the mind - the mind was created by God. Why did God create the human mind with the ability to feel things like hate, envy and greed? Yes, if given the freedom to choose, a human might pick one of these as opposed to love, forgiveness, or kidness. But why give them hate, envy and greed as a choice in the first place? Can you blame a child for choosing ice cream over chicken for dinner if his parent gave him the choice?
How does a creator claim to be Holy, but at the same time, give humans the mental capacity and the freedom to do what is evil, and then judge them for it?
If God really believes in justice, why didn't he destroy Satan from the beginning? After all, who is Satan that God should have to prove so much? After all, Satan is evil right? It's the same as a judge having to prove the reason for his existence to a child molester. If a man tried to rape your wife, would you find it necessary to prove to him why he is wrong, or would you put a bullet in his head first?
If God's believes in justice, why did he destory the world in the flood, and now threaten to destroy it again, yet he allows Satan an eternity to exist? Why does God punish humans more than Satan? Shouldn't he suffer more, after all, we didn't bring evil to the world - he did!!!
Why does the Bible say that Satan will be freed again to test humans after the 1000 year reign of Christ? Where is God's justice in all of this?

This question may not make too much sense. But think about this:
If a man creates a computer, using the best parts and software design with the intent of analyzing data accurately and reliably, would he also design it with the ability or freedom to 'crash' or spread viruses to other computers if it chose to?
If a man trains a dog with the intent of being a family pet, would he also give it the knowledge to kill humans or other animals?
Do you see the pattern?
If God is pure and righteous in every possible way, than why are his creations capable of evil? If God and/or Jesus created everything in their own image (that of perfection), than where did these creations (like Satan) obtain the capacity for malice? Just because a creation of God has the freedom to think for itself, it doesn't mean that it is able to do what is bad unless the knowledge of such were 'built in'? Right?
How did Satan know what evil was if he himself was a perfection creation? Why would God create angels or even humans with the ability to feel envy - knowing that this is evil (it's even one of the Ten Commandments).
Am I the only one who has ever thought the above?

Hello Gary!
I love your posts - the effort and detail in them has given me much to think about.
I have another type:
# 14: The Undercover Brothers
- These are JW men and women who have spent years as elders or regular pioneers, led dozens to baptism, but are later found to have lived such scandalous lives that they bring entire congregations down with them in their web of secrecy and deceit.
For example, at one congregation I attended, a pioneer 'sister' was sleeping with another regular pioneer for years while her worldly husband was serving time in jail for MURDER. Another sister was also involved as she babysat the kids while the two were out enjoying their sin. Since no one could keep a secret, the committee room soon became a very busy place.
